FARM WORKSHOPS

Experience the polder



To allow people to get to know the Over-Amstel Boerderij and our team a bit better, we organise various workshops. The Over-Amstel Boerderij team loves showing you what is so special about their trade. For example, you can discover the flavours of the polder and the seasons with our chef Herb. And our cheese maker Dewi? She is happy to teach you.

The workshops are practical and hands-on, so that you can master the art of various artisanal techniques. Below, you will find the workshop schedule. Register for the workshop via the link. Once the payment is completed, your participation is confirmed. To make the experience accessible for all our guests, the workshop may be (partly) held in English. We hope to see you soon.

Fermenting & Pickling

One of our chefs will teach you how to capture flavours over time. You will discover the art of fermenting and pickling and get to work with seasonal vegetables. You will learn how to vary your dishes and preserve your own harvest for later. At the end of the day, you can take your jars home with you. In between, you will enjoy a farm lunch. The boat departs at 10:00. The workshop lasts until approximately 15:30.

Gardening with the season

After coffee and a tasty treat from the farm, you will join our gardener in the garden. You will learn how we move with the seasons, discover more about the soil, the rhythm of nature and our way of growing. You will see, smell and feel everything up close and roll up your sleeves to get stuck in: taking cuttings, planting or harvesting, depending on the season. We finish around 12:00 and you get to take a plant home with you. Perhaps, if you like, a good time to join us for lunch in our restaurant.

Wine & Food Tasting

From 15:30, sommelier Emanuel welcomes you to the farm for a generous wine tasting with accompanying small dishes. A relaxed drink that turns into an early dinner. We finish with a selection of cheeses from our own creamery. Together, the wines and dishes form a complete meal.
The boat departs at 15:00 and returns around 18:00.

Morning walk through the polder

We start the morning with coffee and something tasty from the farm. Then you will join Klaas Pieter on a tour of the polder landscape. Along ditches and meadows, you will discover how this landscape was formed, with stories about waterworks, agriculture and modern farming life. Along the way, you will search for birds with binoculars, see hares in the grass and cross the ditch via wooden planks.
The boat departs at 9:00 a.m. The walk starts at 9:30 and ends around 12:00. Perhaps you would like to have lunch in our restaurant afterwards? If so, please book a table yourself.

Making butter on the farm

You board at 15:00 for an afternoon full of flavour. After a short tour of the farmyard, you pick herbs from the garden yourself. Then you get to work and whip fresh cream from our milk into golden yellow butter, which you flavour with your herbs.
While the butter rests, we will set the table with bread and treats. With a good glass of wine, you can relax and end the day. Of course, you can take home what you make.
The boat departs again around 18:00.

Baking quiches with Olivier

Baker Olivier, of French origin, will teach you the tricks of quiche baking. You will make shortcrust pastry from butter and flour, fill it with seasonal vegetables and cheeses from our cheese maker, and bake it into a golden brown quiche. At the end of the day, you can take your own quiches home with you. In between, you will enjoy a farm lunch. The boat departs at 9:00. The workshop starts at 9:30 and ends around 15:30.

Cheese making with Dewi

Our cheese maker Dewi will introduce you to the art of cheese making. Using fresh milk from the polder, you will take your first steps in the process. You will learn, taste and make your own cheese. At the end of the day, you will take a young cheese home with you. It will continue to mature on your shelf until it is ready to be cut after a few weeks. A piece of Over-Amstel Boerderij, for your home.
In between, you will enjoy a delicious farm lunch. The boat departs at 9:00 and will return around 15:30.

Baking sourdough bread

Baker Olivier, of French origin, will teach you the basics of sourdough bread. You will get to work kneading and shaping the dough yourself and discover how sourdough works. The workshop will be conducted mainly in English.
The workshop includes a farm lunch in our restaurant. The boat departs at 9:00. The day ends at the farm around 15:30.
